Railway Group D (Level-1) Selection Process 2025
Candidates whose application forms are found to be in order will be issued online admit card through the official websites of the RRBs/ RRCs. All candidates will have to appear for the recruitment test(s) as per the date, time and center mentioned in Admit Card (E-call letter). All eligible candidates will have to undergo the recruitment tests in four stages as follows:
- Stage 1: Computer Based Tests (CBT)
- Stage 2: Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
- Stage 3: Document Verification (DV)
- Stage 4: Medical Examination (ME)
You can download E-Call letter or Admit Card (will not be sent by Post) from the RRBs/ RRCs websites about 01 week before the CBT/ PET/ Document Verification date. To appear in the exam, you will have to carry your e-call letter along with a valid Photo ID proof (Voter Card, Aadhaar Card, PAN Card etc) and one colour photograph same as uploaded in the application. Aadhaar linked Biometric authentication of candidates will be done at the exam centre prior to entry.

Railway Group D Selection Procedure 2025
The Group D (RRC Level-1 Posts) selection process consists of Computer Based Test (CBT), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Document Verification and Medical Examination as follows (step by step):
Computer Based Test (CBT)
Firstly, all eligible candidates will have to undergo Computer Based Test (CBT) scheduled to be held as per the schedule fixed by Indian Railway (see related updates below). The CBT will be of 90 Minutes duration and will consist of total 100 Objective type questions (01 mark each) of maximum 100 Marks.
Question Paper for Railway Group D CBT Exam will comprise of questions based on General Science, Mathematics, General Intelligence, Reasoning, General Awareness and Current Affairs as per the pattern and syllabus below:
- General Science: 25 Questions (25 Marks)
- Mathematics: 25 Questions (25 Marks)
- General Intelligence and Reasoning: 30 Questions (30 Marks)
- General Awareness and Current Affairs: 20 Questions (20 Marks)
There will be negative marking and 1/3rd of the marks allotted for each question will be deducted for each wrong answer given by candidates. Minimum 40% marks for UR/ EWS and minimum 30% marks for SC/ ST/ OBC candidates will be mandatory to qualify the CBT Exam.
Group D Exam Syllabus:
Mathematics – Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern etc.
General Intelligence and Reasoning – Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and Decision Making, Similarities and Differences, Analytical reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions etc.
General Science – Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of 10th standard.
General awareness – Science & Technology, Sports, Culture, Personalities, Economics, Politics and other subjects of importance.
Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
Candidates shortlisted from CBT Exam on the basis of CBT Exam merit will be called for Physical Efficiency Test (PET) three times the community wise total vacancy of the posts notified against RRBs/ RRCs. The PET will be qualifying in nature and will consist of Weight Carrying and Running Test as follows:
For Male Candidates – Ability to lift and carry 35 Kgs of weight for a distance of 100 Meters in 02 Minutes and ability to run for a distance of 1000 Meters in 04 Minutes and 15 Seconds in one chance.
For Female Candidates – Ability to lift and carry 20 Kgs of weight for a distance of 100 Meters in 02 Minutes and ability to run for a distance of 1000 Meters in 05 minutes and 40 Seconds in one chance.
The Weight Carrying test involves lifting a sand bag (without any handle) from a bench/ platform at around waist height and carrying it above the ground to the destination point in whatever manner the candidate wishes to carry it, without letting the sand bag drop to the ground.
Document Verification
Finally, candidates will be called for Document Verification on the basis of performance in CBT Exam subject to their qualifying in PET. The following documents are required in original along with 02 sets of self-attested photocopies at the time of Document verification (DV).
Documents Required for Verification:
1. Matriculation/ High School Certificate or Equivalent certificate as Proof for Date of Birth.
2. NCVT/ SCVT Certificate (As applicable).
3. SC/ST Certificate in the prescribed format.
4. OBC-NCL certificate in the prescribed format.
5. Non creamy layer declaration by OBC candidates in the prescribed format.
6. Income Certificate for Waiving Exam Fee for Economically Backward Classes in the prescribed format.
7. Original discharge certificate for Ex-serviceman.
8. Photo Copy of both sides of Aadhar Card.
9. Medical Certificate for Persons with Disabilities (PwBD) in the prescribed format.
10. NOC from serving employees with date of appointment.
11. NOC from Serving Defence Personnel with probable date of discharge.
12. Minority Community declaration on Non-judicial Stamp Paper in the prescribed format.
13. Gazette notification and/or any Legal document in case of formal change of name.
14. Self Certification by the Transgender candidates.
15. J&K domicile certificate (if applicable).
16. Certificate of eligibility from Government of India.
17. Decree of divorce/judicial separation from the competent Court of Law as applicable and Affidavit stating that the candidate has not remarried.
18. Death Certificate of spouse in case of widow candidate and Affidavit stating that the candidate has not remarried.
19. Self declaration by Ex-Servicemen candidates who secure civil employment.
Medical Examination
Candidates called for Document Verification will have to pass requisite Medical Test(s) conducted by the Railway Administration to ensure that the candidates are physically fit in all respects to carry out the duties connected with the post(s) opted by them.
Visual Acuity Standard is one of the important criteria of medical fitness of Railway staff. Refer to the Group D Employment Notice for the visual acuity requirements against different medical standards for different categories.
Final Selection:
Final selection of candidates in Group D post will be based on passing medical fitness test, final verification of educational & community (caste) certificates and verification of antecedents/ character.

Exam Schedule, Admit Card and Result
Computer Based Test (CBT) of Railway Group D CEN No. 08/2024 (Level-1 Posts) will be held in multiple phases. Candidates can view the CBT Exam City & Date and download Travel Authority for SC/ST candidates through the RRB official websites using Registration number and Date of Birth (as Password). Admit Card (E-Call letter) for CBT will be available to download 04 days before the exam date.
