ITBP Tradesman Recruitment Procedure 2024-2025
Candidates whose application forms are found to be in order for the Tradesman Recruitment will be issued online Admit Card (Call letter) through the official website recruitment.itbpolice.nic.in. All candidates will have to appear for the recruitment tests as per the date, time and center (venue) mentioned in Admit Card.
After verification at the center, candidates will be put through various recruitment tests in 04 phases as follows:
Phase 1 – Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST)
Phase 2 – Written Examination (CBT/ OMR Based)
Phase 3 – Trade Test and Merit List
Phase 4 – Documentation and Medical Examination (DME/ RME)

ITBP Constable Tradesman Selection Procedure (Detailed)
The recruitment process will consist of Phase-1 (PET and PST), Phase-2 (Written exam), Phase-3 (Trade test and Merit list) and Phase-4 (Document verification and Medical examination). You will have to carry a clear printout of online application form and admit card at the recruitment tests centre.
After verification of identity and bio-metric examination at the center, you will have to undergo different selection tests step by step as given below:
Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
Firstly, all the male and female candidates will have to go through the following Physical Efficiency Test (PET) events. The PET will be qualifying in nature and you will have to qualify each event. PET will not be held for Ex-Servicemen.
Male Candidates:
Race – 1.6 Kms within 07 Minutes 30 Seconds
Long Jump – 11 Feet (03 Chances)
High Jump – 3½ Feet (03 chances)
Female Candidates:
Race – 800 Meters within 04 Minutes 45 Seconds
Long Jump – 9 Feet (03 Chances)
High Jump – 3 Feet (03 chances)
Physical Standard Test (PST)
Candidates qualified in PET will be allowed to appear for Physical Standard Test. Physical Standards (Height, Chest and Weight) for ITBP Constable Tradesman (Tailor, Gardener, Cobbler, Safai Karmachari, Washerman and Barber) will be examined as given below.
Height for Constable Tradesman (Tailor, Gardener and Cobbler):
GEN/ SC/ OBC Category – Male: 167.5 Cms and Female 157 Cms.
Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas and candidates from Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir region of UT Jammu & Kashmir & UT Ladakh – Male: 165 Cms and Female 155 Cms.
ST Category – Male: 162.5 Cms and Female 150 Cms.
Height for Constable Tradesman (Safai Karmachari, Washerman and Barber):
GEN/ SC/ OBC Category – Male: 170 Cms and Female 157 Cms.
Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas and candidates from Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir region of UT Jammu & Kashmir & UT Ladakh – Male: 165 Cms and Female 155 Cms.
ST Category – Male: 162.5 Cms and Female 150 Cms.
Chest for Male Candidates only (All Trades):
GEN/ SC/ OBC Category – 80-85 Cms.
Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas and candidates from Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir region of UT Jammu & Kashmir & UT Ladakh – 78-83 Cms.
ST Category – 76-81 Cms.
Weight (for Male and Female candidates): Proportionate to height and age as per medical standards.
Written Examination (CBT/OMR Based)
Candidates qualified in PST will be called for OMR Based/ Computer Based Test (CBT) of maximum 50 Marks. Fresh admit cards will be issued to all PET/PST qualified candidates to appear in the written exam. ITBP Tradesman written exam will be of 01 Hour duration and will consist of total 50 objective type multiple choice questions (01 mark each) of 10th standard.
The question paper will consist of objective type based on General Awareness, Mathematics, Reasoning Ability and Basic knowledge of English/Hindi as per the exam pattern below:
- General Awareness/ General Knowledge – 15 Questions (15 Marks)
- Knowledge of Elementary Mathematics – 10 Questions (10 Marks)
- Analytical aptitude and Ability to observe & distinguish patterns – 15 Questions (15 Marks)
- Basic knowledge of English/Hindi – 10 Questions (10 Marks)
The pattern of written exam i.e. OMR Based or Computer Based Test (CBT) will be decided by ITBPF. The minimum cut-off marks for qualifying in written exam will be 18 Marks for UR/ EWS/ Ex-Serviceman candidates and 17 Marks for SC/ST/OBC candidates. ITBP Tradesman Answer Key of the question paper will be published on the official website after the written exam.
Trade Test
Candidates declared qualified in written examination (10 times the number of category-wise vacancies) will be called for the respective Trade Test (of 50 Marks) as applied in the application form. The trade test will be qualifying in nature and minimum qualifying marks will be 50% for all categories. ITBP Trade test criteria and marks distribution for all trades is as follows:
Constable (Tailor) – Taking measurements, cutting and stitching uniform for winter and summer seasons for the Force personnel (15 Marks); Knowledge about different types of material i.e. fabrics, threads etc used in the trade work (10 Marks); Capability to carry out minor repairs/ troubleshooting and maintenance of the sewing machine (15 Marks); Ability to recognize the tools/ machines used in cutting and tailoring and their correct identification (10 Marks).
Constable (Gardener) – Knowledge of different kinds of plants, flowers and seasonal plants and the ability to recognize them (10 Marks); Knowledge of chemical fertilizers and their use (10 Marks); Knowledge of preservation of seeds of different plants, season of plantation and plantation techniques (10 Marks); Knowledge about budding and grafting, preparing the bouquets by using flowers of different colours (10 Marks); Ability to identify and recognize the tools used in gardening (10 Marks).
Constable (Cobbler) – Knowledge of stitching and repairing shoes (10 Marks); Ability to identify and recognize the tools used in the trade (10 Marks); Ability to identify and recognize the different types of leather and material used in the trade work (10 Marks); Ability to identify and recognize the nails and threads used for repairing shoes (10 Marks); Knowledge of different parts of a leather-sewing machine and the ability to carry out minor repairs (10 Marks).
Constable (Safai Karmachari) – Knowledge about tools, cleaning material used in the trade work (10 Marks); Cleaning of bathroom, toilet wash basin etc (15 Marks); Collection and proper disposal of Trash/Garbage etc (10 Marks); Ability to open a blocked sewer pipe line, latrine and septic tank (15 Marks).
Constable (Washerman) – Washing of various types of clothes (15 Marks); Ironing of clothes (10 Marks); Knowledge about dry-cleaning of clothes (10 Marks); Knowledge about use of various detergents/ washing powders, soaps etc and their use in correct quantity (15 Marks).
Constable (Barber) – Hair cutting of various types (20 Marks); Body/ Head massage (15 Marks); Knowledge about use of tools/ machines used in the trade work (15 Marks).
Merit List
After completion of Trade Test, post and UR, SC, ST, OBC, EWS and Ex-servicemen category-wise merit lists will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in the written examination. On the basis of merit the candidates will be shortlisted for Verification of original documents (Documentation) and Detailed Medical Examination (DME) as per the category-wise vacancies.
Extended list in each category will also be prepared to cover the shortfall due to failure of candidates in Documentation, Detailed Medical Examination (DME) and Review Medical Examination (RME). However, there will be no reserve list.
Verification of Original Documents (DV)
After declaration of merit list, candidates will be put through verification of original documents (documentation). Candidates will have to produce all original documents/ certificates in proof of details given in the application form. Original documents will be returned and self attested photocopies will be retained with the application. The following documents/ certificates (original) are required at the time of document verification (DV):
- Educational certificates.
- 10th Pass certificate for Date of Birth verification.
- Professional/ Experience certificate (if any).
- SC/ST/OBC (NCL) Certificate in prescribed format (if applicable).
- OBC (NCL) Declaration in the prescribed format (if applicable).
- EWS Certificate in prescribed format (if applicable).
- Domicile Certificate/ PAN Card/ Aadhar Card/ Driving License/ Voter ID Card etc for verification of citizenship.
- Discharge certificate (for Ex-Serviceman).
- Four latest passport size photographs.
- Height and Chest Relaxation certificate in the prescribed format (if applicable).
- No Objection Certificate (for Govt servants).
Medical Examination (DME/ RME)
Finally, candidates qualified in the documentation will have to undergo Detailed Medical Examination (DME) to assess their fitness as per the Medical Standards. Candidates declared unfit during DME will be allowed to undergo Review Medical Examination (RME). The decision of ITBPF Board of Medical Officers will be final for declaring a candidate Fit or Unfit in DME/ RME.
The minimum distance vision will be 6/6 and 6/9 for both eyes without correction i.e. without wearing spectacles or lenses. The candidate must not have knock knee, flat foot, varicose veins or squint in eyes. Candidate must be in good mental and bodily health and free from any physical defect likely to interfere with the efficient performance of duties.
Tattoos marked on traditional sites of the body like inner aspect of forearm but only left forearm, being non saluting limb or dorsum of the hands are to be allowed. Size must be less than ¼ of the particular part (Elbow or Hand) of the body.
