Pay Scale:
Sub Inspector (SI) – Rs 35400-112400 Pay Matrix Level-6 (Old pay scale Rs 9300-34800 PB-2 with GP Rs 4200).
Head Constable (HC) – Rs 25500-81100 Pay Matrix Level-4 (Old pay scale Rs 5200-20200 PB-1 with GP Rs 2400).
Constable (CT) – Rs 21700-69100 Pay Matrix Level-3 (Old pay scale Rs 5200-20200 PB-1 with GP Rs 2000).

Eligibility Criteria (Age and Educational Qualification)

Age Limit:
SI (Master and Engine Driver) – 22 to 28 years.
HC (Master, Engine Driver & Workshop) and Constable Crew – 20 to 25 Years.

The crucial date for determination of age limit will be the closing date for receipt of applications i.e. 01st Jul 2024. Relaxation in upper age limit for SC, ST, OBC, Ex-Serviceman and other categories is applicable as per Govt rules.

Educational Qualification:
SI (Master) – 12th Pass (10+2) or equivalent from a recognized Board/ University and Second Class Master Certificate issued by the Central or State Inland Water Transport Authority or Mercantile Marine Department.

SI (Engine Driver) – 12th Pass (10+2) or equivalent from a recognized Board/ University and First Class Engine Driver Certificate issued by the Central or State Inland Water Transport Authority or Mercantile Marine Department.

HC (Master) – 10th Pass (Matriculation) from a recognized Board or equivalent and Serang certificate.

HC (Engine Driver) – 10th Pass (Matriculation) from a recognized Board or equivalent and Second Class Engine Driver Certificate.

HC (Workshop) – 10th Pass (Matriculation) from a recognized Board or equivalent and ITI Diploma in Motor Mechanic (Diesel/ Petrol Engine)/ Electrician/ AC Technician/ Electronics/ Machinist/ Carpentry/ Plumbing from a recognised Institution.

Constable Crew – 10th Pass (Matriculation) from a recognized Board or equivalent and 01 year experience in operation of Boat below 265 HP and candidate should know swimming in deep water without any assistance (required to submit an undertaking certificate as per prescribed format).

BSF Water Wing Selection Process, Physical PST PET and Exam Syllabus

The selection process consists of 1st Phase (Written Exam) and 2nd Phase (Physical Standard Test/ PST, Physical Efficiency Test/ PET, Documentation, Trade Test and Medical Examination) as follows:

Written Examination

All eligible candidates will be called to appear in 1st Phase (OMR based written exam) scheduled on the date and time fixed by HQ DG BSF at the selected exam centers. Call letter (Admit Card) indicating the date, time and venue for written exam will be made available to download online.

The question paper will be of total 02 Hours duration and will comprise of 100 objective type multiple choice questions (maximum 100 Marks) based on General Knowledge, Awareness, Reasoning Ability, Numerical Ability and Trade Awareness (only for the post of SI Master/ Engine Driver). The qualifying marks in written exam will be 35% for UR/ OBC/ EWS candidates and 33% for SC/ ST candidates.

Sub Inspector (Master/ Engine Driver):

• General Knowledge and Awareness: 25 Questions (25 Marks)
• Reasoning Ability: 25 Questions (25 Marks)
• Numerical Ability: 25 Questions (25 Marks)
• Trade Awareness: 25 Questions (25 Marks)

Head Constable (Master/ Engine Driver/ Workshop) and Constable (Crew):

• General Knowledge and Awareness: 35 Questions (35 Marks)
• Reasoning Ability: 35 Questions (35 Marks)
• Numerical Ability: 30 Questions (30 Marks)

BSF Water Wing Exam Syllabus (HC/ Constable):

General Knowledge and Awareness – Current Affairs (Events related to India), Indian Constitution, Indian History and Geography, General Polity, Sports: Championships/ Winners/ Number of Players, Other misc. issues related to General Knowledge.

Reasoning Ability – Coding & Decoding, Series (number), Alphabet (position based), Relationship concepts, Distance & directions, Arithmetic Number series, Other basic concepts of reasoning.

Numerical Ability – Basics ((2X2) multiplications), Mixed fractions, Averages, Percentages, Profit & loss, Time & distance, Simple interest, compound interest, Simple mensuration.

Candidates qualified (06 times of number of vacancies) in 1st Phase (Written exam) will be allowed to appear for the 2nd Phase tests (Physical Standards Test, Physical Efficiency Test, Documentation, Trade Test and Medical Examination) as per the details below:

Physical Standards Test (PST)

Candidates called for 2nd Phase will be put through Physical Standards Test. Physical measurement for the posts of SI, HC and Constable will be carried out by the selection Board to assess the height, weight and chest of candidates according to the prescribed standards as follows:

• ST/ Adivasis – Height: 160 Cms and Chest: 73-78 Cms
• Candidates belonging to Hill areas of Garhwal, Kumaon, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Leh & Ladakh, North Eastern States, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, UT of Pondicherry, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu, A&N Islands and Dogras – Height: 162.5 Cms and Chest: 75-80 Cms
• Other States/ UTs – Height: 165 Cms and Chest: 75-80 Cms

Weight – Proportionate to height as per medical standards.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Candidates qualified in PST will be allowed to appear for Physical Efficiency Test of qualifying in nature. Candidates are required to qualify following events (except ex-servicemen):

• 01 Mile Race: Within 08 Minutes
• High Jump: 03 Feet 06 Inches (in 03 attempts)
• Long Jump: 11 Feet (in 03 attempts)

Note: All Ex-Servicemen are not required to undergo Physical Efficiency Test (PET). Ex-Servicemen are required to fulfill the Physical Standard Test (PST) prescribed for the concerned posts. However, all Ex-Servicemen are required to pass the Written Examination, Documentation, Trade Test and Medical Examination.

Documentation

Candidates qualified in PST and PET will have to undergo document verification. Candidates will have to produce original copies of the following documents to prove their eligibility for SI/ HC/ Constable post as Age, Education, Technical Qualification, Experience, caste, relaxation for PST etc.

• Matriculation or equivalent certificate as a proof of age.
• Essential educational qualification as a proof of education.
• Essential technical qualification and experience certificates as a proof of technical qualification and experience.
• Caste certificate in case of SC/ST candidate (as per prescribed format).
• OBC certificate in case of OBC candidate (as per prescribed format).
• Certificate in support to avail relaxation in height and chest measurement (as per prescribed format).
• Undertaking certificate regarding Swimming for those candidates who are applying for the post of CT (Crew) in BSF Water Wing (as per prescribed format).
• Income and Asset Certificate in case of Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) candidate (as per prescribed format).
• Certificate in the case of seeking relaxation in age.
• Discharge certificate (for Ex-Serviceman).

Trade Test

Candidates qualified in PST, PET and Documentation will be put through Trade Test. The trade test for each post will be carried out by the selection Board to assess the knowledge and experience of candidate in the respective technical field or trade applied by the candidate. Swimming Test for the post of CT (Crew) will also be carried out by the Selection Board.

Medical Examination

Candidates qualified in Written exam, Documentation, PST, PET and Trade test will undergo Detailed Medical Examination (DME), which will be carried out by a Medical Officer to assess their medical fitness. Candidates declared unfit during DME will be allowed to undergo Review Medical Examination (RME).

The candidates must not have knock knees, flat foot. varicose vein or squint in eyes, must possess CP III BY ISIHARA vision and must be in good mental and bodily health, free from any physical defect likely to interfere with the efficient performance of the duties.

Final Selection

After completion of Medical Examination (DME/ RME), final merit list will be drawn post, trade and category wise separately on the basis of marks obtained by candidates in written exam. BSF Water Wing Result and the list of finally selected candidates will be published through official website.

In case where more than one candidate has secured equal marks, the tie case will be resolved by applying age or alphabetical order of candidate’s name. No waiting/ reserve list be be declared.
