Border Roads Organisation (BRO) GREF Recruitment

The main role of the Border Roads Organisation (सीमा सड़क संगठन) is to support the armed forces meet their strategic needs, develop & maintain the Operational Road Infrastructure of General Staff in the Border Areas and Contributing to the Socio-Economic Development of the Border States.

Driver Mechanical Transport (OG), Electrician and Vehicle Mechanic – Rs 19900-44400 as per 7th CPC Pay Matrix level 2
Multi Skilled Worker (Cook) – Rs 18000-39900 as per 7th CPC Pay Matrix level 1

Eligibility Criteria (Age and Educational Qualification)

Age Limit:
Driver Mechanical Transport (OG), Electrician and Vehicle Mechanic: 18 to 27 years as on application closing date (relaxation in upper age as per Govt rules)
Multi Skilled Worker (Cook): 18 to 25 years as on application closing date (relaxation in upper age as per Govt rules)

Educational Qualification:
Driver Mechanical Transport/ DVRMT (OG) – 10th Pass (Matriculation) from a recognized Board and should have Heavy Motor Vehicle driving licence or have passed class III Course for Driven Plant Mechanical Transport as laid down in Defence Service Regulations (Qualification Regulations for Soldiers) from office of Records or Centres or similar establishment of Defence.

Electrician – 10th Pass (Matriculation) from a recognized Board and should have Certificate of Auto Electrician from Industrial Training Institute or equivalent and having 01 year experience as Electrician or have passed the Electrician Class 2 Course as laid down in Defence Service Regulations (Qualification Regulations for Soldiers) from office of Records or Centres or similar establishment of Defence.

Vehicle Mechanic – 10th Pass (Matriculation) from a recognized Board and should have Certificate of Mechanic in Motor Vehicle/ Diesel/ Heat Engine or should have Certificate of mechanic in internal Combustion Engine / Tractor from Industrial Training Institute.

Multi Skilled Worker (Cook) – 10th Pass (Matriculation) from a recognized Board and should qualify in proficiency (trade) test, physical and medical standards.

Application fee

General/ OBC/ EWS/ Ex-servicemen candidates are required to pay Rs 50/- as application fee. The application fee can be deposited directly in favour of Commandant, GREF Centre, Pune 411015, in Public Fund Account No. 11182905409 of State Bank of India, Khadki Branch Pune Code No. 01629. SC, ST and Physically Handicapped Persons are exempted from payment of application fee.

Eligible and desirous candidates can apply for the Border Roads Organisation Recruitment or BRO GREF Bharti in the prescribed application form downloaded from website www.bro.gov.in or through the direct link below. After downloading the application form, take printout on good quality A4 size paper using one side only. If you are eligible for more than one post then you can send separate application with separate fee in separate envelope. Send application form complete in all respect along with the following required documents to “Commandant GREF Centre, Dighi Camp, Pune – 411015” so as to reach on or before the last date.

BRO GREF Selection Process, Physical and Exam Syllabus

The selection process will consist of Physical Test, Trade Test, Written Exam and Medical Examination. Call letter (Admit Card) for Physical Efficiency Test and Practical Test (Trade Test) will be sent to candidates by Ordinary Post and the same can also be downloaded through the website www.bro.gov.in. The admit cards will be issued as per minimum 10 times of the vacancy advertised in each category. If the BRO receives applications more than 10 times then for each post, a cut off percentage in Essential Qualification will be applicable.

Candidates will be provisionally selected on the basis of Combined Merit List in Written Test only and will have to undergo Medical Examination. Thereafter candidates declared fit in Medical Examination and meeting all criteria, will have to undergo training at GREF Centre Pune for specified period.

Weightage for issue of Call Letter

For wards of serving/retired GREF personnel/ Ex-servicemen, sportsmen and NCC certificate holders, highest out of the following Weightages (Bonus marks) will be added to the percentage of marks obtained for issue of initial Admit Card (Call letter) for Physical Efficiency Test only and no weightage will be added for any further recruitment process.
1. Son of serving/ retired GREF personnel – 15% (such concession to only one son)
2. NCC C Certificate – 10%
3. NCC B Certificate – 05%
4. Serving GREF Personnel applying for higher post (Open market) – 15%
5. Son of Ex-servicemen – 03%
6. Sports at State/ District/ University level – 05%
7. Casual Paid Labour (CPL)

Physical Efficiency Test

The Physical Efficiency Test will consist of 01 Mile run within 10 Minutes. Passing the Physical Efficiency Test will be mandatory for all trades. Physically handicapped candidates, Ex-servicemen and departmental candidates will be exempted from Physical Efficiency Test.

Syllabus for Practical Test (Trade Test)

Candidates qualified in Physical Efficiency Test will be allowed to appear for the Practical Test (Trade Test). The Trade Test will be conducted as per the Syllabus below:

Driver Mechanical Transport (OG) – Maneuvering of slope without slipping, Driving of vehicles on a driving track (‘8’) and Reverse parking

Electrician – Identification of engine parts, Identification of parts of transmission sys, Identification of parts of fuel sys, Identification of different Lubricants / oils, Identification of tools, equipments

Vehicle Mechanic – Making of joints & fixing of switch boards switches/ MCBs etc, Identification of electrical components of Vehicle/ equipments/ Plant, Identification of tools, equipments

Multi Skilled Worker (Cook) – Chopping/Cutting of vegetables, Identification of spices, Cleaning of utensils, Knowledge of cleanliness of working place, Finishing/ garnishing/ decoration/ beautification/ flavoring of food

You will have to obtain minimum 40% marks in Practical Test (Trade Test) to qualify for the Written Exam.

BRO GREF Written Exam Syllabus

Candidates qualified in Trade Test will be allowed to appear for the written test. The written exam (10th standard) will consist of Objective type/ Subjective type questions on General Knowledge, General English/General Hindi, General Arithmetic, Analytical and Quantitative Skills. The objective type questions will be OMR based and the subjective questions have to be answered in the answer sheet.

The question paper will be bilingual i.e. English and Hindi and the duration of the exam may vary from 1 hour to 3 hours depending upon the trade. Minimum passing marks for UR, EWSs & OBC category will be 50% and 40% for SC & ST category. The written exam for the different trades will be conducted as per the Syllabus below:

Driver Mechanical Transport – Maintenance of heavy / light vehicle, Use of Oils / lubricants, Daily / periodic checking, Tyre rotation, Road signs, Traffic Rules, Use of Tools and General knowledge

Electrician – Operations of petrol / diesel engines, Checking of faults, Repair & Maintenance on engine, Repair & Maintenance on fuel system, Repair & Maintenance of break system, Repair & Maintenance of clutch system, Repair & Maintenance of Chassis and General Knowledge

Vehicle Mechanic – Wiring of all types of vehicles/ equipments including house wiring, Charging batteries, Maintenance of electrical machinery held in Workshop, Simple electrical calculations, Measuring and testing instruments, Electrical motors and generations and General Knowledge

Multi Skilled Worker (Cook) – Preparation of procedure & different types of ingredients used with quantity mentioned against each, for preparation of Indian, South Indian, Mughalai, Hyderabadi, Chinese & Continental dishes (Vegetarian dishes, Non-Vegetarian, Sweet dish, Preservation of food, Washing / cleaning of Utensils) and General Knowledge
